DBCS Reminder of Week 1/19 and Competition Info

Dear Parents,

This Saturday, 1/19, DBCS will have regular classes, including all elective classes.

Due to facility availability issue, the Diamond Bar Chinese New Year Celebration Event is postponed. New date is Feb 23, 2013. At the event, we will have a special exhibition of art works by our students, such as drawings, calligraphy, paintings, and writings. Teachers and parents are going to select the winners of each age group and winners will be awarded at the celebration. The deadline for submission is Feb 16th. Works can be done at home independently.

Several major competitions and tests related to Chinese study are coming up.
1. Chinese SAT Mock Exam: deadline for application will be Feb 6. Exam will be done in March. We welcome all those needed to take the exam, including those who already left DBCS. If you are current students, please inform your teacher about your plan to take the mock exam. If you are not current students, please contact the office to register for the mock exam.

2. Spring Academic Competition organized by Southern California Council of Chinese Schools will be held in May. Categories include, poem, classics, and speech. All materials are available at http://scccs.net/events/event37/Speech/speechMain.htm. DBCS will have school-wide selection competition for poem on Feb 30. For classics and speech competitions, students and parents can choose to participate. There will be a limit for each group in each category. So please register early.

3. Chinese Culture and History Quiz Competition, organized by Southern California Council of Chinese Schools will be held in May. This event uses Jeopardy! format and will be fun for participants. All materials are available at http://scccs.net/events/event37/Decath/DecathMain.htm.

Also, Dance class will start this Sat with Mr. Michael Bailey as our lead teacher. Highly recommended by the Dellos Studio, Mr. Michael is an experienced teacher and accomplished choreographer. The class is still open for sign-up.  

因為場地原因，鑽石吧新春園遊會將推遲至2月23日舉行。我們將舉辦一個學生的書畫作品展以及優秀作文展。作品將由老師和家長評比，頒獎儀式將於園遊會期間舉行。請參賽的同學不遲於2月16日交上作品。作品可以在家中獨立完成。

幾個同中文學習相關的比賽和考試安排如下：
1. SATII中文模擬考試，學校在2月6日前報名，考試安排于3月。這次將不再把考卷和考試資料發給學生個人。必須以學校為單位組織。請在校生和其他有需要的學生及時報名，無論學生是否在校，我們都可以幫助安排參加模擬考試，請相互轉告。

2.南加州中文學校聯合會的春季學術比賽將於5月舉行。比賽項目包括詩歌朗誦，經典背誦，演講。其中，詩歌朗誦全校範圍的初賽將于2月30日舉行。優勝者可以參加聯合會的比賽。經典背誦和演講沒有預賽，請學生和家長踴躍報名參加。所有材料都可以在這個網頁找到：

3. 南加州中文學校聯合會的中華文史知識競賽將於5月舉行。比賽採取Jeopardy！的方式，文史知識範圍和資料都可以在以下網頁找到：
http://scccs.net/events/event37/Decath/DecathMain.htm. 如果要參加比賽，學生需要熟悉中華文史，特別是規定資料的內容。學校希望能組織代表隊參賽。參賽者目前由老師推薦。學生和家長有興趣的，請報名參加。
