This Saturday, 9/15, Diamond Bar Chinese School will have regular classes from 9:00-12:30pm. This week will be the deadline for class switches. Please make up your mind and let us know.
On Sept 29, Diamond Bar Chinese-American Association will have the annual Moon Festival Celebration. The show will be held at the Diamond Bar High School theater. We are still looking for talents and performances from our Chinese School.
Parents of younger kids please go to their elective class to pick up after school. From the opening day, our enrollment has increased by more than 30 students. As some of our elective classes were canceled due to lack of enrollment, our existing elective classes become crowded. Therefore, we want to survey parents and students about possible additional elective classes. If we have enough enrollment, we will have additional classes. Here are some options and we also welcome suggestions from parents. Our goal is to have 1-2 new classes by next week but can not do so without interested students.
1. Chinese Poems and Classics (for kids between 6-9): We love kids when they recite classic poems, and kids love that too. Teacher Betty, (currently teaching level 1, traditional), is trained in teaching young kids and is great at stimulating and guiding little kids to learn Chinese classic poems, idioms, and stories. Kids will learn to recite poems, perhaps some classics too.
2. Chinese Culture and History (for students above level 4, fluent in spoken and listening Chinese). Don't know much about Chinese history? This is a class for you. Come to meet great emperors, generals, scientists, artists and poets. Don't know much about Chinese culture, such as folklore and classic literature? Ever heard about the Monkey King? The Three Kingdoms? This is a class design for higher level students to go beyond the Chinese language and truly get to know China. If we have enough students enrolled in this class, we can have a teacher that have taught many years of Chinese history.
3. Hu La Hoops (7 and above). Have you noticed some students are playing Hu La Hoops at DBCS? They are preparing for the Sept 29th Moon Festival Celebration. Enrolled in this class, you get to have a lot of fun and many opportunities to perform.
We will have a sign-up sheet at the office for those who are interested. You do not have to commit to sign. It will help us to count the interested students and decide whether to setup the classes. Once the classes are setup, many could consider transferring out of crowded classes.
Here is a special notice to tennis class students: Diamond Bar High School told us that the construction of the pool will take at least a year or two to finish. Therefore, all students will have to walk a long way to the tennis court. There is no short-cuts. It takes about 10-15 mins just to get there from the D building. Parents and students of that class please take this into consideration. We would not be able to move the court or find a short-cut.
There are many newly enrolled students for the Conversation Class and the Basic Level classes, particularly the two Basic Pinyin Classes. Meanwhile, the registration stands at 18 and 16. Many parents are still switching classes at the moment. The teachers are making adjustments accordingly.
